Abitur 2026: A Celebration of Excellence, Friendship, and New Beginnings

The Abitur Class of 2026 at Deutsche Schule Jakarta has officially crossed the finish line – and with outstanding results.
ABISTREICH – The final day of school for the Class of 2026 in three words:
Chaos. Dancing. Water.
Or, to be more precise: first locked out, then locked in, and finally forced to dance.
For everyone wondering what on earth was happening at DSJ today: the “Abistreich” is a long-standing German tradition in which graduating students celebrate their final day of school with a healthy dose of chaos, creativity and humour before saying goodbye.
Today this meant a decorated school building, toilet paper, games in the sports hall, a teacher dance competition in front of a gathered audience, a conga line and, by the end, considerably more water than originally planned.
The result: the school is still standing, the teachers danced, and very few T-shirts stayed dry. 😄

On Friday the 22 May, after a week of final oral examinations, students, parents, teachers, and guests gathered to celebrate this year’s graduation ceremony. Among the guests was German Ambassador Herr Beste, who encouraged the graduates to become ambassadors themselves – for Germany, for dialogue between cultures, and for the values they have experienced throughout their years at DSJ.
Having grown up in an international and multicultural environment, the graduates already know what it means to move between languages, perspectives, and cultures. As they now begin new chapters in Germany, Europe, and around the world, the Ambassador encouraged them to carry this spirit with them into their future lives.
This year’s graduating class achieved exceptional results: all 19 students passed the Abitur, with three graduates achieving the perfect final grade of 1.0 and another nine students graduating with a grade in the 1-point range.
In his address, Principal Herr Dietze spoke about courage, perspective, and the importance of standing up for what is right and true in a changing world. He reminded students that success is not only measured by grades, but also by character, empathy, and the willingness to listen, grow, and take responsibility.
Class teacher Herr Yudha looked back on many shared memories with the graduates – from class trips and exchanges to cultural festivals, concerts, and everyday moments that shaped the class over the years. He described the students as “truly special” and encouraged them to stay connected, believe in themselves, and never forget how much potential they still carry within them.
The ceremony itself was filled with music, laughter, proud families, emotional farewells, and, by the end, quite a few tears as Grade 11 officially said goodbye to the graduating class. Afterwards, students, parents, teachers, and guests came together for a buffet reception and one last celebration as a school community.
We warmly congratulate the Abitur Class of 2026 and wish all graduates courage, happiness, success, and exciting new adventures for the journey ahead.
