Subjects: German, History

Markus Langer studied at Philipps University Marburg and teaches German and History. After teaching at Schwalmgymnasium Treysa (2017–2019) and serving as European School Coordinator at Theodor-Litt-Schule Gießen from 2018 to 2025, he joined the German School Jakarta in August 2025 as PQM Coordinator.

Herr Langer became a teacher because he wants to help children and young people discover their potential – to grow into confident, courageous, and reflective individuals. What he loves most about his profession are those special moments when a spark ignites – when students surpass themselves, start believing in their abilities, and develop their strengths. Building relationships with his students, sharing laughter, learning, and growth, is at the heart of his teaching philosophy.

What Herr Langer values most about DSJ is its combination of German educational quality and an open-minded global perspective, which ideally prepares students for life in a globalized world. His educational motto is: Learning can only happen where one feels safe and seen. He views education in a holistic way – as the key to shaping a just and sustainable world.

In his free time, Herr Langer combines curiosity with commitment. He loves traveling and being inspired by different cultures, languages, and ways of life. For him, traveling means more than just seeing places – it’s about encounters, changing perspectives, and learning with an open heart. These experiences also shape his dedication to democratic values and peaceful coexistence. When he’s not exploring the world, he enjoys meaningful conversations, genuine laughter, and quality time with friends.

His favorite quote is: “Children are not vessels to be filled, but fires to be kindled.” (Rabelais)
And his hidden talent? Never getting lost in unknown cities – and if he does, Herr Langer simply discovers beautiful detours.
