Laternenumzug: Lighting the Way

Our season began early with the traditional Laternenumzug (Lantern Festival) on November 9th, where KITA, Preschool, and Grundschule students proudly displayed their handmade lanterns. Led by St. Martin on horseback, the glowing procession circled the entire campus at dusk, creating a serene and magical atmosphere to mark the start of the festive season. Watch the Video here.

Advent Project Day: Crafting the Christmas Spirit

The Adventszeit officially kicked off on November 25th with Advent Project Day, a celebration of creativity and holiday cheer. Grundschule students delighted in crafting intricate Christmas decorations and baking delicious cookies, filling the air with excitement and the sweet aroma of seasonal treats.

"Die Brücke" Christmas Bazar

On November 30th, our Grundschule students added a touch of DSJ magic to the packed Die Brücke Weihnachtsbazar at the Borobudur Hotel. They performed two delightful Christmas songs, spreading festive joy to the crowd. A lighthearted quiz added to the fun, where three brave participants tested their knowledge of Christmas trivia and were rewarded with DSJ Hoodies.

Nikolaustag: A Visit from Nikolaus

December 6th brought the much-anticipated Nikolaustag, a day filled with wonder and tradition. St. Nikolaus himself visited the Kindergarten, Preschool, and Grundschule, calling each child forward to receive thoughtful gifts and wise words, leaving behind memories of magic and joy. The Grundschule kids had great fun afterwards while ice skating at Taman Anggrek mall.

Weihnachtsfest: The Festive Grand Finale

The highlight of DSJ’s Christmas season was the Weihnachtsfest on December 7th, transforming our campus into a vibrant celebration of festive cheer. The day was filled with:

  • Crafting and Decorating Cookies: Families joined forces to create holiday masterpieces, enjoying the spirit of togetherness.

  • Face Painting and Family Fun: The face-painting station transformed children into adorable magical creatures—sparkling fairies, fierce tigers, and more—adding a whimsical touch to the festivities.

  • Festive Market Delights: Partner vendors offered handicrafts and delicious treats, while the SV’s beloved Kaffee & Kuchen classroom served traditional German pastries. Seasonal beverages like Glühwein added to the cozy atmosphere.

Auditorium: Festive Music by Choir and School Orchestra

Musical Magic: The school orchestra, choir, and solo artists filled the Auditorium with enchanting Christmas melodies, creating a heartwarming festive ambiance.

On Stage: Dancing, Singing, and Holiday Joy

Captivating Performances: Students of all ages, alongside our school bands, mesmerized the audience with emotional and beautifully choreographed stage presentations.

A Special Side Event: Grand Opening of the Schulshop and Café

A significant milestone during the Weihnachtsfest was the grand opening of our school shop and café. Highlights included: Free Lebkuchenherzen for visitors. A special Tombola, with Bosch generously donating two toasters as prizes. The unveiling of new café equipment, including a Bosch coffee maker, freezer, and Microwave. Guests enjoyed freshly brewed, fair-trade Waykan Coffee from Lampung, making the Schulshop almost complete and setting a high standard for future gatherings.

We extend our deepest thanks to our students, parents, staff, the EVV and SV, as well our generous sponsors, especially Bosch, for making this year’s festivities truly unforgettable. Your enthusiasm, dedication, and support brought the Christmas spirit to life in the most meaningful way.

From all of us at Deutsche Schule Jakarta, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025!
